WHERE IT BEGAN
Mojo Vineyards began in October 2025 with sixty-five bottles and a set of stone steps running through the woods behind the house.
Those steps became the inspiration for the engraving found on every Mojo Vineyards label, connecting the wine back to the place where the story began.
Same Land. New Stories.

Our family
Denise's great-grandfather, Flaviano "Frank" Manfra, was born in Mercogliano in 1873, in the hills beneath the abbey of Montevergine. He served in the Italian Army and the City Guard of Avellino, and his obituary remembers him as a special agent who guarded the Kings of Italy. On December 8, 1903, in the town hall of Summonte, he married Giuseppa Guerriero, a farmer's daughter from that village on the slopes of Monte Partenio. Their first children were baptized at the church of San Nicola in Torelli, a hamlet of Mercogliano.
Frank crossed the ocean twice to find work, and in 1912 Giuseppa followed with their three children, landing at Ellis Island on their way to Westfield, New Jersey. He finished pianos, became a citizen in 1927, and owned his own home in Scotch Plains. His son Edward, then Edward's son Raymond, carried the name to Denise.
Irpinia, the green hill country above Avellino, is serious wine country, home to Aglianico, Fiano and Greco. It is where our children and our grandson come from. Our children have visited, and one day our grandson will too.
Mojo Vineyards is how I honor that. I make it for Denise, for our daughter Jessica (and her husband Matthew), for our son Michael, and for our grandson, so the place they come from always has a seat at our table.
